Frequently Asked Questions:
What is the core focus of this 3.5-hour seminar?
Our teen leadership sessions move beyond the classroom. We focus on "The Social Map"—helping teens identify their unique functional roles in society through high-energy, real-world discovery and experiential learning.
How is this different from a school leadership club?
While schools often focus on academic leadership, we prioritize interaction and resilience. We use out-of-the-box exercises that mirror professional environments, helping students build a toolkit for life outside of a textbook.
What's included in the Seminar?
Each participant receives a comprehensive, high-touch experience designed to be both immersive and practical:
The "Social Map" Curriculum: Access to a proprietary leadership framework that identifies functional roles within a group, moving beyond generic "be a leader" advice, and effective communication skills.
The Functional Profile Workbook: A high-quality, physical guided journal used during the session for self-discovery, strength-mapping, and strategic planning.
Experiential Learning Modules: Three and a half hours of facilitated, hands-on challenges that mirror real-world professional and social scenarios.
Professional Certification: A formal Damaterra Certificate of Completion, including specific competency language for college applications, internship resumes, or Eagle Scout/Gold Award portfolios.
Post-Seminar Roadmap: A digital "Next Steps" guide sent to parents and students to help apply the seminar’s lessons to their current school or extracurricular activities.
Curated Refreshments: High-energy, professional-grade snacks and beverages to keep focus levels high during the intensive session.
The Networking Lunch: A catered, quality meal provided during the final 15 minutes, allowing students to decompress and practice professional social engagement in a relaxed, sophisticated environment.
What's included and why is it labeled as an "Investment"?
We use the term "Investment" because the value of this seminar extends far beyond the three hours spent in the room.
Future-Proofing for College & Career: Admissions officers and employers are increasingly looking for "soft skills"—emotional intelligence, adaptability, and role-clarity. This seminar provides the vocabulary and confidence for teens to articulate these strengths in interviews.
Social ROI (Return on Investment): By understanding "The Social Map," teens reduce the social anxiety that comes from not knowing how to fit into a group. They gain the "agility" to move between roles, making them more effective collaborators, communicators and leaders.
Time Efficiency: We compress weeks of leadership concepts into a high-impact, 3.5 hour "sprint." For a busy student involved in sports, AP classes, or the arts, this is a high-yield use of their limited time.
The Damaterra Standard: Unlike a generic youth camp, an investment in a Damaterra program ensures a sophisticated, "formal-casual" environment that treats teens like the emerging professionals they are.
My teen is more of an introvert; will they feel comfortable?
Absolutely. True leadership isn't just about being the loudest voice in the room. Our curriculum recognizes various leadership styles—including the "quiet precision" of researchers and the "steady reliability" of project managers.
What is the recommended age for participants?
This specific seminar is curated for teens aged 13 to 18. We may segment activities so middle and high school students can engage with peers at a similar developmental stage.
Is this a drop-off event?
Yes. To foster independence and ensure a focused environment, this is a student-only session. Parents are invited to join us for a brief "Closing Summary" during the final 15 minutes of the event.
What should my student wear?
We recommend a "Smart Casual" attire. We want students to be comfortable enough for movement-based activities, but dressed in a way that reflects the professional nature of a job interview.
Do they need to bring a laptop or tablet?
We advocate for a "heads-up" learning environment. All necessary materials, including workbooks and writing tools, are provided. We ask that students keep devices tucked away to fully engage with the group.
What are your safety protocols?
The safety of our community is our highest priority. All facilitators are background-checked, and we maintain a small group size to ensure high-level supervision and engagement at all times.
Does my teen need to bring lunch?
No. We provide a professionally catered lunch during the final 15 minutes of the seminar. This "Networking Lunch" is a core part of our curriculum, allowing students to practice social leadership in a relaxed setting. Please ensure any dietary restrictions are noted on the registration form.
Are there any dietary considerations for snacks?
We provide light, high-energy refreshments (water and nut-free snacks). At the end of the session, there will be a full catered lunch provided. Please ensure any specific allergies are noted on your digital registration form so we can accommodate your student.
What is the "Peer" discount?
We encourage teens to grow alongside their peers. When registering two or more students together (siblings or friends), a 15% discount is automatically applied at checkout.
Damaterra is committed to accessibility within our community. We are pleased to offer a limited number of 50% Educational Scholarships for those who find the current investment a barrier to attendance.
To maintain the integrity of our program, these are handled as a tuition reimbursement: participants register at the standard rate, and upon successful completion of the seminar, a 50% refund will be issued to the original form of payment. Please submit your Scholarship Application HERE by April 15, 2026.
What if I need to cancel?
If you need to cancel, please email hello@damaterra.org with your name and the event for which you need to cancel. Registration fees are nonrefundable after April 15, 2026.
